Ann Smith

Meet the Newest Member of the Calmwater Team, Ann Smith, Kayak and Wade Fishing Guide & Instructor

Ann Smith started fishing for bluegill at an early age with her father at the family farm pond. Later as a teenager she chased rainbow trout in Wyoming's Shoshone river and after moving to Louisiana she discovered saltwater fishing in Grand Isle. That was over thirty years ago and she has been wade fishing the surf or kayak fishing ever since. Ann shares her love of nature and fishing to offer a unique outdoor experience whether it's your first time in a kayak or you're an accomplished angler.  Ann will work hard to accommodate your needs and to assure that you have a great time as well as a safe trip.

Calmwater Charters offers customers a unique approach to coastal Louisiana inshore fishing near Grand Isle, Louisiana.  Our specialty is providing a memorable day on the water.  Our trips are designed to provide an exciting angling experience. In the Summer we will use our new ProKat 22' Catamaran for conventional bay boat fishing trips for up to 4 anglers, or pack a few kayaks on board to transport you to scenic marsh islands that are otherwise unreachable by paddling alone. At other times of the year, we will trailer our Native Water Craft Ultimate Kayaks to locations that enable us to use the tides and wind to access marsh ponds otherwise unreachable by conventional water craft. When the speckled trout move off the beaches, we will take you there to experience an enhanced version of wade fishing, where you will learn stealthly kayak drifting techniques that will enable you to stay with the school of trout.  We fish year round in Grand Isle - and you can too!

Captain Danny Wray is a licensed Coast Guard Captain as well as an experienced and knowledgeable fisherman who is eager to share his experience with you.  As a Heritage Endorsed Guide, Capt. Wray can provide you with value insight on kayak fishing techniques, rigging and strategies. He has been featured in magazines such as Field and Stream, Tide, Louisiana Sportsman, Gulf Coast Fisherman, Canoe and Kayak, Marsh and Bayou, on Websites such as www.fishhound.com & www.laspecks.com  and on the TV shows Journey South, Louisiana Sportsman TV and Paradise Louisiana airing on Cox Sports.  Look for Capt. Wray's column, Kayaker's Corner, in Marsh and Bayou Magazine.

Our Native Water Craft Ultimate Kayaks are equipped with everything you'll need to enjoy a unique angling experience. Our standard equipment includes a bow or stern mounted anchor, mud anchor or Stinger Anchor system, a seat with back rest, a graphite double paddle, a Coast Guard approved floatation device, an aerated portable live bait bucket (if you prefer live bait).  Please bring your own rod and reel for these trips, we will supply you with live or artifical bait.  New for 2012 we will also offer Kayak Sail Trips.  We will equip you with a Hobie Outback/ Mirage peddledrive system and sail to cruise the bay behind Grand Isle, weather and wind permitting.  These are guided kayak trips. Please call for reservations.

Calmwater Charters also provides guided Pontoon Boat or Kayak Estuary/Birding Tours with Capt. Kristen Wray. If you enjoy Flyfishing, we also offer charters for one or two fishermen in the spring, fall and winter months. Click on the pages to the left to learn more about the different charters and services we offer.
